The health coaching intervention is generally the most effective tool for facilitating behavior change. Built on the principles of non-directive counseling, the wellness counselor and participant work together to highlight potential areas for improvement, find the motivation to change and craft the real-world, custom strategies to be implemented for more favorable long-term health outcomes. The end goal is helping participants to live a healthier life while reducing both individual and group health risk factors.

Conversations vary from participant to participant based on needs. One participant may be interested in reducing blood lipids and that is their intervention path, whereas another participant may be interested in implementing a sensible exercise routine, yet another, might be trying to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into their diet. The discussions are as varied as the individual participants.

Wellness counselors are a valued resource for participants. We’re not about preaching or lecturing, we’re simply here to help facilitate action toward a desired behavior change providing encouragement, support and wellness education throughout the process.

In general, participants speak with their wellness counselor once monthly for about 15 minutes – this meeting can be conducted in person or over the phone. Face to face counseling offers a greater opportunity for educational experiences, but depending on the type of business, work hours, etc., face to face coaching may not always be practical or the most preferred delivery method.
